The organizers of the contest “Japan Car of The Year” (JCOTY) summed up voting of journalists and experts results, having defined the best 2015 model. The Mazda Company got the flagship position twice at a stretch– the roadster MX-5 of the new breed was called the best.
Nine more models claimed the victory in the final stage of the contest. Suzuki Alto, Subaru Outback/Legacy, Toyota Senta, Nissan X-Trail, Honda S660, 2-Series Active Tourer BMW, Jaguar XE, Fiat 500X, and Tesla Model S P85D came to this list.
Initially 45 models aspired to the triumph in Japan Car of the Year: there were 24 Japanese ones, 18 European ones, and three American ones.
The judges at the contest included 60 people. They marked each car by the points from 1 to 10. As a result, Mazda MX-5 got 442 points, the second Honda S660 got 401 points, and the “Top-3” was secured by BMW 2-Series Active Tourer with 177 points. Nissan X-Trail got the last, tenth place.
In the 2014, the hatchback Mazda2 was awarded the first place of JCOTY and in the 2013, Volkswagen Golf got the victory. This case became the first in 34 years when the model of a foreign manufacturer became “Japan Car of The Year”.
