Datsun history

Although the official foundation date of Datsun is 1931, the origin of the company is rooted in 1914. This year a Japanese automaker Kaishinsha Motorcar Works developed its first auto which was named DAT car. This model appeared to be quite successful.

In 1925, the managers of the company decided to adopt a new name for their company. The new name was DAT Motors. The company cooperated with many other Japanese automakers and used to be very successful thanks to the production of both passenger cars and trucks.

The year 1931 is regarded as the date of the official foundation of Datsun. However, we would rather call this date official only in terms of the brand’s name. This year the company was renamed in Datson, which means Son of DAT. In 1933, the name had been slightly changed, and the company was titled the way we know it today – Datsun. During these years and until the start of the Second World War, Datsun was quite successful and managed to adopt the best practices of American automakers. In 1934, Nissan was had been founded, and Datsun became the Nissan’s division for the production of passenger cars.

As for the time during the Second World War, initially Datsun was building trucks for the Japanese Army, but after this army had lost, the automaker started to manufacture trucks for the occupation forces. After the war had ended, was decided to export the autos made by Nissan under the Datsun brand.

Nissan was the largest exporter of cars from Japan to the United States, and all of these cars were produced under the Datsun brand. In 60s, export of these cars was growing substantially and it conditioned the further development of the brand. The best-known model for the period is Bluebird.

In 70s, Nissan became the largest car exporter in the entire world. It was done thanks to many factors, including thanks to cooperation with Datsun.

However, in the early 80s, Nissan decided to strengthen its own brand worldwide. For this reason, they stopped using the Datsun brand with exported cars and started using the Nissan brand instead. The change of the name had occurred from 1982 to 1984. Nissan had spent much money on the production of new badges, but the decision to change the name turned out to be not the best one. According to surveys, Datsun stayed more familiar than Nissan. When Nissan had stopped using Datsun brand with its exported cars, Datsun was almost eliminated and not forgotten. Only in 2001, Nissan used the Datsun name with its pick-up D22.

Datsun logo history

Nissan Datsun logoDuring the entire history of Datsun, only two logos of the company were employed. The first one, used from the beginning of its history and until the 80s when Nissan stopped utilizing the brand, looked really good. At least many people believe so. The old logo of Datsun was a red circle on white background. Besides, there was a name of the company written in the combination of white and blue. The symbolism of the logo consisted in the fact that red circle and white background resembled the Japanese flag.

And when Nissan was decided to revive the brand in 2012, a totally new logo was developed. This one has no resemblance with anything. It looks generic and very similar to the logos of other brands. Most people don’t like the new logo compared to the old one. The new logo combines silver and blue colors and also has the title of the company.
