Volkswagen Beetle to get more bodystyles

Volkswagen is developing a new-generation Beetle for launch in 2011 and is considering a number of different bodystyles, with a speedster-style two-seat roadster said to be under development. Also SUV variant is considered.
The speedster will probably be a little more radical than the Ragster concept that was shown in 2005 at Detroit Motor Show.
All these models are being developed off the current Golf Mk5 underpinnings, rather than the upcoming Golf Mk6 platform. Elements of the styling are thought to be influenced by the Up! and Space Up! concepts, which preview Volkswagen’s forthcoming new city car range. Engineering work will be done in Germany, the final styling will be tasked to Volkswagen’s Californian design studio. Beetle production is likely to remain in Puebla, Mexico.
