Official: Fisker Karma will be manufactured in Finland

Back in July we reported that Fisker Karma will very likely be manufactured in Finland by Valmet Automotive after two companies signed a letter of intent.

Today Fisker Automotive announced that they have signed the final assembly contract with Valmet Automotive to manufacture the Fisker Karma in Finland. Valmet Automotive will be the engineering and manufacturing supplier for Fisker Automotive.

Today Valmet Automotive manufactures Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman for Porsche AG. That deal is set to end in 2012 as Porsche found another partner.

Fisker KarmaFinnish company Valmet Automotive has signed a letter of intent with an American premium car company Fisker Automotive Inc.

According to the letter of intent Valmet Automotive is to manufacture Fisker Automotive’s first production car, the Fisker Karma, in Finland. The target is to sign the final contract within next months.

Porsche will end the production of Boxster and Cayman in Finland

Valmet Automotive Finland. Porsche manufacturer
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will be continuing the successful cooperation on the production of the mid-engine models Boxster and Cayman with the Finnish manufacturing partner Valmet Automotive until the year 2012, thus fulfilling it contractual obligations.

In a call for tenders, Porsche has chosen Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co KG, Graz, as future contract manufacturer. The Austrian enterprise secured the contract because it submitted the most financially attractive offer, and because it is in a position to take on development tasks for Porsche sports cars.
