Posted on Jun 12 2008 by admin | Posted under BMW | No Comments »

BMW X5 (M) Prototype
For a while there have been rumors that BMW is working on a new X5M prototype. From pictures taken by our photographer in Germany we can not tell much, as the engine is covered, but it seems that the engine is twin-turbocharged. Most likely it is not the 3.0-liter twin turbo engine, but something larger.

We still can not confirm is this new X5 going to have M badge or not, but with pictures we surely have more information that something besides rumors is going on.

Gemballa introduces Avalanche GT2 EVO

Posted on May 21 2008 by admin | Posted under Porsche, Supercars, Tuners | No Comments »

Gemballa Avalanche 600 GT2 Evo
The basis of the Avalanche 600 GT EVO is the Porsche 997 turbo or the GT2. GEMBALLA even knows how to boost the already impressive set of performance figures of the production model. 600 bhp (442 kW) put the competition from Maranello and Sant’Agata-Bolognese in a tight spot. The six-cylinder boxer with a torque of 840 Nm – power-boosted by the GEMBALLA power kit - stands out even more.

GEMBALLA’s power boost allows the modified 997 to race at a top speed of 320 km/h, accomplishing the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The latter can – depending on the driver’s skill – be even further enhanced by fitting the sport shifter for vehicles with a manual gearshift, reduced gear lever travel, which is available in the “Sport” and “Race” versions.

To supercharge or turbocharge?

Posted on May 13 2008 by admin | Posted under Industry news | No Comments »

The basic concept behind both turbocharging and supercharging is getting more air to be forced into a vehicle’s engine.

With more air, an engine can then use more fuel, which in turn sparks more engine power. However, while a supercharger is powered by a car’s rubber belt, a turbocharger runs with the help of exhaust flow.

A supercharger is driven directly by the motor, typically through a belt, and as such is akin to any motor ancillary. Like a water pump, or alternator, its directly driven nature provides instant reaction to rpm changes.

Audi RS8 will get twin-turbocharged, 572bhp V10

Posted on Apr 02 2008 by admin | Posted under Audi, Industry news | No Comments »

2008-audi-r8-front-11.jpg They told us it would never happen, but it now seems that, contrary to earlier reports from senior Audi bosses, next year’s even hotter R8, the RS8, will get the same twin-turbocharged, 572bhp V10 as the RS6 super-saloon.

With that kind of power, expect the car to crack 62mph in less than 4.0 seconds, 100mph in around 8.5 seconds, and a top speed over 200mph. Definetely a treat to in-house rivals such as Porsch e911 GT2 and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

The Next M-series Back Down to Six or Four Cylinders?

Posted on Mar 28 2008 by admin | Posted under BMW, Industry news | No Comments »

m3_track.jpgThe first M3 had an inline four. The next two gens holstered straight sixes. And now the M3 has a high-revving V8. BMW’s mighty M5 went from two generations of straight sixes to a V8 to a high-revving V10.

All this horsepower excuses BMW from having to lighten its cars and focus on improving dynamics. It seems that BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer is thinking along the same lines.
