Porsche announced today, that from February 2009, the sports car manufacturer will offer Cayenne with a diesel engine.
This decision was taken in response to changed legal regulations especially in European markets, resulting in tax incentives for vehicles with diesel engines. Furthermore, Porsche’s stake in the Volkswagen Group, the world’s largest manufacturer of modern diesel engines for passenger cars, has opened up new opportunities to utilise diesel technology.

Tata Motors, well known for their worlds cheapest car project Nano is now working on the new Tata Safari.
Tata Safari is the first SUV to be designed, developed and manufactured entirely in India. Tata claims that the Safari delivers almost the same power and torque as the Mitsubishi Pajero, but available at 60% of the Pajero’s price.

Chrysler LLC said Wednesday it would invest $1.8 billion retooling and expanding its Jefferson North Assembly Plant to build a new car-based SUVe to be sold under the Jeep nameplate.
The money would be used “in new vehicle programs” and a 285,000-square foot expansion. The move is expected to keep 400 jobs at the plant. New plant will feature state-of-the-art lighting and energy management to using solid waste and paint sludge as a source of energy said Tom LaSorda, vice chairman and president.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will unveil its new Pajero Sport*1 SUV model at the Moscow Auto Salon 2008 (The Moscow Motor Show) to be held at the Crocus Expo in Moscow between August 26 and September 7 (opens to the public on August 29).
The new Pajero Sport will be phased in selected regions*2 such as Russia, the ASEAN area, the Middle East, Latin America and Oceania starting in the fall this year.

Lot of times car manufacturers compare their new models to the ones their competitors make. Sometimes they go pretty far telling how bad their competitor products are.
This BMW X3 TV ad is kind of sarcastic and it sure has some truth in it. Most American made SUVs share the same platform with lot of other models in their lineup(usually trucks and bigger Van’s).
Look at the commercial below where a guy is driving a bigger American SUV(pretty sure it is a GM) and when approaching the traffic light he hits the brakes to see the body of his SUV taking of his car thus uncovering truck underneath it.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has extended its third model line by the addition of the top of the range Cayenne Turbo S. The Turbo S, the most powerful Cayenne of them all, is driven by a 4.8 liter V8 engine with twin turbo forced induction, delivering 550 hp (404 kW).
The Turbo S is Porsche’s response to the wishes of its customers. There is huge demand, especially in the new emerging markets of Eastern Europe and Asia, for exclusive sports-style SUVs with top quality physical handling dynamics.

The grand rehearsal at the beginning of this year already made heads turn, when the striking Vision GLK entered the SUV stage and was celebrated as a compact character actor marking a new design approach in this vehicle class. At the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is going a step further and adding the Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID to the line-up. This study illustrates the possibilities of the “TrueBlueSolutions” strategy in the compact SUV segment, true to the guiding Mercedes-Benz theme of producing the world’s most efficient and clean drive systems. The Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID achieved this goal by combining the new BLUETEC four-cylinder diesel engine generation with a hybrid module. This combination generates an overall output of 165 kW/224 hp, and a torque of 560 Nm. Superior performance can be taken as read in view of these figures. And yet the Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID returns a fuel consumption of only 5.9 l per 100 km.

BMW’s X6 will debut in the Detroit auto show and should hit the showrooms during secnd quarter of 2008.
The top model will be powered by a new twin-turbo. Direct-injected 4.4L V8 will pump out 400-horsepower and 450 lb-ft torque. BMW claims it will do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.

Porsche is targeting average fuel consumption figures of 9.8 liters/100 kilometers in the New European Driving Cycle and about 24 miles per gallon in the US FTP cycle for the Cayenne Hybrid, and future developments may allow Porsche engineers to push towards an average fuel consumption figure of 8.9 liters/kilometer (approximately 26 miles per gallon).
