Honda today revealed a concept version of its new small hybrid vehicle, named Insight, at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The new Insight Concept shares styling cues with the Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle and provides an early look at the highly anticipated five-passenger hybrid vehicle.

The concept will make its U.S. debut at Los Angeles Auto Show; production version will debut at North American International Auto Show.

Paris preview: Kia Soul hybrid

Kia Soul hybridIn addition to the cee’d gasoline hybrid Kia will also debut the Kia Soul hybrid at the Paris Motor Show.

The Soul Hybrid concept comes complete with a transparent bonnet and floor, so the new hybrid powertrain and battery pack can be viewed by show visitors.

This Soul features a 1.6-litre gasoline engine, mated to a 15 kW, 105 Nm electric motor, Kia´s own CVT (continuously variable transmission), ISG and ‘regenerative braking´ to re-charge its power pack.

2010 Toyota Prius spiedToyota is testing the third generation Prius. Photos we managed to get are not in best quality as the car was too far and there was no way to get closer.

What we can already tell that Toyota stais true to the current shape. Rumor is though that the car is little wider and shorter than the current Prius.

HEVT plug-in Ford F150Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc. (HEVT) has unveiled the world’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the popular Ford F-150 pickup truck at Plug-In 2008 Conference and Exposition, the first international plug-in conference and expo.

Converted with a proprietary adaptive controller and using a scaled-down version of the proprietary drive train HEVT has designed for transit buses, the F-150 has been transformed from a standard combustion engine vehicle getting about 16 MPG to a PHEV getting up to 41 MPG for a typical day’s driving.

Cadillac’s Hybrid Escalade recently came to Los Angeles and John Howell, Cadillac’s Director of Global Products, gave an in-person introduction to the vehicle. Available in 2WD and 4WD configurations, the Escalade delivers 6,000 and 5,700 pounds of towing capacity, respectively.

Plus the Escalade’s 2 Mode hybrid system, Active Fuel Management system and electrically variable transmission enables the luxury SUV to attain 20 mpg city/21 mpg highway.

Worldwide Prius Sales Top 1 Million Mark

Toyota announced today that worldwide cumulative sales of the Toyota Prius-the world’s first mass-produced gasoline/electric hybrid vehicle-have passed the 1 million mark, with approximately 1,028,000 units sold as of the end of April this year*1. Currently, Prius sales are robust in more than 40 countries and regions, particularly in Japan and North America.

Based on sales figures collected up to April 30, 2008, TMC believes that Prius vehicles worldwide have contributed to a reduction in CO2 emissions (considered a cause of global warming) by producing approximately 4.5 million tons*2 less CO2 when compared with gasoline-powered vehicles in the same class and of similar size and driving performance.

Toyota Prius ConvertibleAccording to the owner it took approximately 6 months to complete all the work. It is, to our and his knowledge the only convertible Prius ever done. It was stripped to the bare metal, (interior) and every piece of the interior was removed and a complete custom rebuild, piece by piece) was undertaken by Newport Engineering in California.

The side air bags had to be removed and the side interior moldings had to be rebuilt to allow the frame to set properly.

Jim Press: Prius was 100% subsidized by Japanese government

Chrysler co-President Jim Press is stirring things up at his former employer, Toyota Motor Corp., by saying development of the Prius hybrid was subsidized by the Japanese government.

In a BusinessWeek story published Thursday, March 24, Press said that when he was at Toyota, “The Japanese government paid for 100 percent of the development of the battery and hybrid system that went into the Toyota Prius.”

Geneva 2008: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID

The grand rehearsal at the beginning of this year already made heads turn, when the striking Vision GLK entered the SUV stage and was celebrated as a compact character actor marking a new design approach in this vehicle class. At the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is going a step further and adding the Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID to the line-up. This study illustrates the possibilities of the “TrueBlueSolutions” strategy in the compact SUV segment, true to the guiding Mercedes-Benz theme of producing the world’s most efficient and clean drive systems. The Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID achieved this goal by combining the new BLUETEC four-cylinder diesel engine generation with a hybrid module. This combination generates an overall output of 165 kW/224 hp, and a torque of 560 Nm. Superior performance can be taken as read in view of these figures. And yet the Vision GLK BLUETEC HYBRID returns a fuel consumption of only 5.9 l per 100 km.
