Pininfarina will move production of the Alfa Romeo Brera, from its San Giorgio plant to make room for production of an electric car.

The car will be sold as a Pininfarina model in Europe, the United States and Japan starting in 2010.

“By the end of the year, production of the Alfa Romeo Spider and Brera will move from San Giorgio to Bairo,” said Pininfarina CEO Sergio Angori. Bairo currently builds the Mitsubishi Colt CZC and the Ford Focus coupe cabriolet.

Electric Smart ForTwo is in the testing

Last summer Smart unveiled three new concept versions of its second-generation ForTwo minicar, all based around an ultra-efficient electric drivetrain. The trio included a regular petrol hybrid, a diesel hybrid and a zero-emissions electric vehicle.
The all-electric ForTwo, features a 30kW motor powered by a sodium-nickel-chloride battery and a range of 115km(about 70 miles) on a single charge.

Bentley goes green with Continental DC

A Bentley Motors apprentice team has won a special “Spirit of Greenpower” award for its performance in the Greenpower Corporate Challenge which took place at Goodwood race circuit yesterday. The Bentley apprentice team designed, engineered and built the electric powered car which they entered into the Greenpower Challenge as well as a season of “F24+” racing.
The Bentley Greenpower car is called Continental DC (Direct Current) and runs off a 24-volt motor supplied by two 12-volt batteries. Designed for lightness and maximum power efficiency the one-seater Continental DC has a carbon fibre chassis and low resistance tyres.

Evisol ThoRR electric sports car brings power to the Super 7
It is an enormous thrill to develop and actually built a high performance sports car, especially when you can use state of the art propulsion technology. Mind blowing, smooth acceleration, razor sharp cornering, scaring high speeds, perfect balanced re-generative and friction braking, who wouldn’t like to be involved in such a project.
Yet, it only has been a relatively simple project for Evisol. The real challenge has been to develop, compose and actually assemble the drive train that makes it possible to properly propel this car, fully electric.

All-electric EVX Mustang and Shelby Cobra

The idea of an electric Pony car or Shelby Cobra may not sit well with some but California-based HST International and design firm Tjaarda have developed a pair of electric vehicles ready for sale based on the aforementioned muscle cars.
Dubbed the Tjaarda EVX Mustang and HST Shelby Cobra EVX, the two new cars will be on show this weekend at the 34th Annual Toyota GP in Long Beach, California.

Fisker Karma Confirmed for Europe

Yesterday Tesla Motors announced limited edition for Europe. Now Fisker has confirmed Karma for Europe.

The Fisker Karma is a four seater plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan and stunned many Americans at the 2008 NAIAS as well as Europeans at Geneva.

There are no official performance specifications green sports sedan available yet, but Fisker Automotive have claimed a sub 6 second 0-100 km/h time, 200 km/h top speed and max torque available from stand still.

Tesla Roadster limited edition for Europe

2008 model year Tesla Roadsters are all spoken for in the United States, but with the increasing production levels 2009 year model Roadsters are still available.
With deliveries starting this spring, Europeans can now start ordering a Limited Edition European Tesla Roadster.

The Tesla Roadster is scheduled to make its European debut at this months Top Marques Monaco auto show (April 24 - 27).

Chevrolet Volt Development Charges On

WARREN, Mich. – Engineers at GM’s battery test facilities have developed a new computer algorithm to accelerate durability testing of the advanced lithium-ion batteries needed to power the Chevrolet Volt for up to 40 miles (64 km) of electric-only driving.

This advanced computer program duplicates real-life vehicle speed and cargo-carrying conditions, and compresses 10 years of comprehensive battery testing into the Volt’s brisk development schedule.
