Stock ZR1 Lapped Nürburgring in just 7:26.4! For comparison the Nissan GT-R time was 7:29.
The car was driven by GM development engineer Jim Mero.
Jim commented after the lap that conditions were good except for a strong headwind down the main straight and that the lap was solid, but he felt there were a few places he could have gone faster.
Corvette ZR1 will cost over 100,000 USD. It hits 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Quarter mile time is 11.3 seconds. In addition to these numbers we have the lap time from the famous Nürburgring in Germany.
“The Ring” is considered to be the toughest and most challenging race track in the world. Most car makers take their cars there.
The Corvette ZR1 has a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h), making it the fastest Corvette ever produced and ranking it among the global super cars of commensurate performance. None of those other super cars, however, equals the ZR1’s performance-per-dollar ratio.
“The ZR1 is an incredible machine by any measure,” said Ed Peper, North American Vice President, Chevrolet. “There’s simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy.”
A while ago we brought you a video story on a custom Porsche 928GTS that was turned into a 6-wheel pickup. Now here we have a Corvette that has been turned into a pickup.
It was assembled combining a 1984 corvette front end and a 1991 corvette rear end with a functional tailgate. Munci 4 speed and custom wheels and tires. Selling price is not known, but the seller claims that over 115K was invested buillding this dream car.
Corvette ZR1 chief engineer Tadge Juechter was speaking in a recent live chat on GMnext.com. He said that as of late April, Chevrolet has not “run our fuel-economy testing yet.” The 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 returns 15 miles per gallon in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
He didn’t have any hard numbers about the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s fuel economy, but the vehicle’s chief engineer predicted recently that “the ZR1 will be the most fuel-efficient 600-hp car you can buy in the world.” Tadge Juechter, Corvette ZR1 chief engineer, noted that the fuel economy of the car “will be somewhat less than a Z06, and we expect a small gas-guzzler tax.”
PONTIAC, Mich. – When it was introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year, the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s power was estimated at 100 horsepower for each of its 6.2 liters of displacement.
GM Powertrain has completed SAE certification of the ZR1’s supercharged LS9 V-8 and the results exceed the estimate: 638 horsepower (476 kW) and 604 lb.-ft. of torque (819 Nm).
The LS9’s output is nearly 103 horses per liter, or just about 1.7 horses for each of the engine’s 376 cubic inches. It is unquestionably the most powerful automotive production engine ever manufactured by General Motors and enables the Corvette ZR1 to achieve a top speed of more than 200 mph (322 km/h).
The eagerly anticipated ‘Gran Turismo 5 Prologue™’ for PlayStation®3 was released by Sony Computer Entertainment UK at a recent launch event in London’s Marble Arch and was supported by Lotus Cars who has two versions of the iconic Elise in the game.
One of the capital’s largest underground car parks was transformed into the GT5 Pit Lane which boasted some of the stars of the game which is heralded as one of the most realistic to date. Alongside the legendary 1996 Lotus Elise and the now iconic 2004 Elise 111R, other heroes of the game turned out to support the event including Audi R8, Aston Martin DB9, Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper SRT10, Ford GT, TVR Tuscan Speed 6, Ford GT and a Ferrari 599.
In addition to the limited-edition Corvette Victory Edition, a second special version of the all-American sports car will be introduced this spring, the Corvette Competition.
This model, built in limited numbers on the basis of the C6 Coupé, bears strong links to motor sport too, in which the Corvette has proven highly successful. The Corvette Competition will be offered at a competitive price.

“Chevrolet’s goal with the new ZR1 is to show what an American supercar can deliver, at a price that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much – and does so with exceptional driveability,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.

Thanks primarily to the efforts of the Team HUMMER racing team, led by Rod Hall, the HUMMER H3 has quickly proved to be a formidable off-road competitor. It runs – and wins – in stock-class off-road races, where racers must rely on production chassis and powertrains. The H3R pays homage to the racing SUV while pushing the envelope on what could be considered “stock” – supposing the factory decided to drop in the 505-horsepower, 7.0L V-8 from the Corvette Z06. In addition to the high-powered engine, the H3R also sports a number of racing-inspired exterior modifications and an interior that blends racing functionality with boulevard comfort and convenience. No, a production H3 equipped with an LS7 engine isn’t in the cards, but for 2008, HUMMER offers the H3 Alpha, which is powered by a new, 300-hp 5.3L all-aluminum V-8.
“Tonight Show” host Jay Leno’s predilection for performance cars is no secret, but many fellow enthusiasts may not know that he is keenly interested in alternative fuels. To prove that red-blooded power mixes easily with a touch of green, Leno partnered with Pratt & Miller – the engineering company that builds and campaigns C6.R Corvettes – to develop a modified Corvette Z06 that is capable of running on E85 ethanol. It was unveiled at the 2007 SEMA Show.
