In the wake of skyrocketing gas prices, MINI has experienced a record number of visits to its websites and a significant increase in Canadian sales.
MINI, which helped to establish the premium small car segment in the country, increased sales 50% compared to June last year, representing 621 MINIs sold in June. MINI saw a 69% increase in web traffic on MINI retailer websites and a 41% increase in MINI.ca visits in June compared to the previous year.
MINI is now the subject of unprecedented consumer interest as Canadians look for more fuel efficient vehicles to help ease the pain at the gas pump. This year, Natural Resources Canada presented the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper Clubman with the award for the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the subcompact class.
“Customers are telling us that they want a fuel efficient vehicle, but they don’t want to sacrifice premium equipment or driving excitement,” said Stephen McDonnell, Director, MINI Canada. “MINI is the perfect solution.”
Due to their exceptional fuel economy, the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper Clubman both qualify for a $1,000 ecoAUTO rebate from the Government of Canada. The MINI Cooper and new MINI Cooper Clubman with a manual 6 speed transmission have a combined fuel economy of 6.3 L/100km.
The public’s increased concern about fuel economy has shown a year-to-date increase in sales. In the first half of 2008, which included the highly successful launch of the MINI Clubman, MINI sales have increased 24% to 2,351 units over the same period last year, setting a new June year-to-date record.
Interest in MINI Pre-Owned vehicles is also on the rise. Year-to-date, total MINI Pre-Owned sales are up 43.7%, compared to the same period last year, to 447 MINI retails. Of those 447 Pre-Owned MINIs sold, 273 were MINI Next Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, a 42.9% increase in sales year-to-date.
