Pininfarina HyperionEnd of June Pininfarina announced the unveiling of a new Special Project named “Pininfarina Hyperion”.

Pininfarina Hyperion is a one-off model built as a custom order for someone who has an expensive and good taste for cars. It is based on the Rolls-Royce Drophead Phantom Coupe, power comes from same 6.75-liter V12 from the Drophead producing 450 horsepower.

Andrea Pininfarina Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Andrea PininfarinaToday morning Andrea Pininfarina, head of the famed Italian design firm that bears his family name died in a motorcycle accident near Turin after a car collided with the Vespa he was riding to the company’s design and R&D center in Cambiano.

In 1981 he graduated from Polytechnic of Turin as a mechanical engineer and in 1982 was employed by Freuehauf corporation in the United States of America.

Hyperion teaserPininfarina is proud to announce the unveiling of a new Special Project carrozzeria during Pebble Beach Concours, August 2008.

The project, named “Pininfarina Hyperion”, is based on a Rolls Royce Drophead Coupè and is an homage to the great pre war cars. Its style, size and overall presence is truly unique in modern day car production, firmly rooted in the history and heritage of the two Brands at the core of the project.

Pininfarina to build an electric car with Bolloré

Pininfarina will move production of the Alfa Romeo Brera, from its San Giorgio plant to make room for production of an electric car.

The car will be sold as a Pininfarina model in Europe, the United States and Japan starting in 2010.

“By the end of the year, production of the Alfa Romeo Spider and Brera will move from San Giorgio to Bairo,” said Pininfarina CEO Sergio Angori. Bairo currently builds the Mitsubishi Colt CZC and the Ford Focus coupe cabriolet.
