Only 1000 Shelby GT500KR “King of the Road” special editions will be made. Much like the original KR that came from the capable hands of Carroll Shelby 40 years ago, this made-over Mustang is far more than just a plaque and fancy paint. A carbon-fiber hood will conceal a 540-bhp version of the supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 from the GT500 that’s been modified with parts from Ford Racing Performance Products.
Ford SVT, Ford Racing and Shelby worked together to fine-tune the package, which also includes a short-throw shifter, a shorter final drive of 3.73:1 (down from 3.31:1) and KR-specific suspension components. Along with unique 20-in. wheels, 40th anniversary badges and striping that resembles the original’s, each car receives a commemorative dash plate.
Good new is that all the parts to crown a GT500 king are available through FRPP and SVT.
